A delightful example of Blanc de Blancs from Lelarge-Pugeot.
The grapes for this cuvée come from just five of the parcels from Vrigny. This champagne is a Blanc de Blancs and therefore 100% chardonnay grapes, chardonnay has naturally more delicate flavours so we can expect to taste that minerally Vrigny soil even more. See what you can pick out.
The grapes were harvested in 2012 and 2013 and spent 6 months in steel tanks for the first fermentation, followed by 5 years on lees in the bottle. Aging for a longer period on lees like this creates “autolytic“ flavours like brioche, biscuit and bread.
Composition
Grapes: 100% Chardonnay
Mix of 2012 and 2013 harvest
Dosage: 3g/l
Tasting Notes
Delicate smells and flavours of ripe pears and peaches with something blossom like and floral. We also found some depth of flavour that reminded us of dried fruits.
Pairing Suggestion
This is great to be enjoyed as an apéritif to really appreciate the delicate flavours.
If you’re feeling adventurous, we suggest opening both these bottles and trying them
